Glover's Atoll, Belize, 11/2000

Nicolo, Jerry, and I (also known as the Three Amigos) spent a week on tiny Glover's Atoll on the southern barrier reef of Belize, hosted by the Manta Resort.  The island is tiny - you can stand on one side and literally throw a coconut into the water on the other side.  But nice intimate dive resorts tend to provide the best experiences!

We arrived in Belize just a few days after Hurricane Keith had thrashed the country.  About half the passengers in the plane on the way down were relief workers, and many of the roads between the airport and the marina in Belize City were under water. Happily though, Glover's Atoll and Manta Resort came through without any significant damage.

Below are a few pics of the land portion of the trip,  but click here to see some pictures of what we came for: the underwater scene.

Glover's Atoll:

The non-legendary Cabana 9.

This was the dining room and bar - where the "lime assassin" was created - from local limeade and a generous splash of Absolut. There was a rather perilous door which opened up onto the water from which kayak-up bar service was available.
